Week one of Ali's Makeover Mondays is complete!
I think I did okay, but there is definite room for improvement. The number one thing I need to work on is eating better. Half the time I was conscious of what I was eating, but the other half I just kinda let it go. I need to take a shopping trip soon specifically for healthy foods, fresh fruits and veggies in particular.
My exercise habits this week were so/so. The first few days I was only giving a halfhearted effort. I really got into it Thursday, though, and on Friday my brother and I started running together. We've gone every night since then and it's settled into somewhat of a routine: We do a 20-minute run/walk to Smith Elementary, then mess around on the playground a little bit, then walk home. The whole trek takes about an hour total and we usually do it late in the evening, so it's dark when we're walking home. Mission: avoid the crazy heat!
And now for the results of my first week... Drumroll, please!
Last week's weight: 186.5
Today's weight: 184.4
A solid two pounds down! I know I could have done better if I'd have given 100% effort, but the room for improvement is exciting because it lets me know that I can do better in the week ahead.
This next week, I want to work on drinking more water. Each day I either met my goal of 64 oz. a day or came pretty close to it, but I felt like I was forcing it down most of the time. I want to get to the point where I opt for water by choice, not because I feel obligated to drink it.
Another thing I'm going to work on is weight training. Most of my workouts this past week were primarily cardio, so I need to switch it up a bit.
Finally, my third goal for week two is to work on lowering my metabolism. I'm going to do this two ways: First, by getting on a more normal sleeping schedule. No more staying up late and sleeping until 11:00 in the morning. I was up at 9:45 today, so that's a start! The second part of improving my metabolism is no eating late at night. I don't eat a whole lot during the day, so most of my snacking occurs late in the evening and/or right before bed, which isn't healthy.
Well, here goes nothing. I hope that you all had great first weeks and that you stick with it in the weeks to come. Once again, good luck!
