It's only a little past 2:00 in the morning and already I'm bursting with fun birthday stories to share. I feel so blessed right now! I'll surely have more things to write about tomorrow, but I want to get these detailes jotted down first.
Earlier this week, I was contacted by the DGFC (long, silly story from a few years ago, but it's the nickname for our little group- me, Erin, Rachael, Katie, Mary, and Caity) and instructed to leave Thursday night free so we could go out to dinner. Erin sent out the mass text and told us to dress up a little, because it had been around a month since we'd all gotten together (aside from Caity, who is spending her summer taking classes in Evansville- insert super sad face here).
So I got fairly dressed up and arrived at Mary's house right at 8:00- I was on time, for once! But I soon discovered that we were not, in fact, going out to dinner. My girls had cooked for me, as a birthday surprise! The dining room was set up all fancy and the table was full of yummy food, including chicken parmesan and pasta and peaches. I was extremely surprised and SO impressed! Everything was delicious.
After dinner we drank Shirley Temples while waiting for the ice cream cake to thaw out a little. Unable to wait the recommended thirty minutes, Erin soon attacked the cake with a butcher knife. Things got kinda messy but the Oreo ice cream cake was wonderful. After cake came presents, and then we set out to ride around town for awhile, as is customary of any DGFC gathering. ;)
Keep in mind that a fair amount of picture taking was going on throughout the entire evening. All of the pictures are on Erin's camera, so I'll have to wait until she uploads them to Facebook to post any! However, we were lucky enough to capture this gem on Mary's cell phone. This would be Erin licking her bowl clean after devouring some cake:
We drove downtown, parked in the parking garage, and headed over to Friendship Alley to take even more pictures. Then we walked around downtown until we felt paranoid and threatened enough to make a mad dash back to Katie's Jeep (it was after 10:00, and therefore very dark and somewhat scary). Next came the new tradition of circling the roundabout! For Erin's 20th birthday last month, we tried to go around 20 times but after 10, we'd had enough. So we finished the remaining 10 laps tonight.
We ended our night at the Richards playground, where we climed onto the equipment and just talked for over an hour. I love our talks. :) They all wished me a happy birthday at midnight, and we headed home shortly after.
Long story short: I don't know what I did to deserve such amazing friends, but God truly blessed me in the friendship category. I don't think I'll ever get over how wonderful they are and what an amazing bond we've formed over these past few years.
Well, I'm ready to get off the computer and do some cardio workouts via Exercise TV OnDemand before bed! I got a pretty good workout in around 8:00 this morning (before taking a much needed nap) but unfortunately didn't get around to my daily walk/run. It's the first day I've missed all week! As if that didn't make me feel guilty enough, I also ate WAY too much today, thanks to my lovely ladies. Time to burn some calories so I can go to bed with a clear conscience.
God bless you all! I'll be back soon with pictures from tonight.
