Good, old-fashioned R&R

First off- Happy April, everybody! I adore this month. April is just dripping with springtime and great weather and blooming flowers and chirping birds in the morning. Aaand, April just happens to be the last full month of the Spring semester. The first week of May is finals week and then it's summer!

Despite the onset of many beautiful spring-like days, I have been feeling a bit under the weather this past week. (No pun intended.) It started when I went home to Columbus on Friday, a week ago yesterday. My throat was killing me, but I attributed the soreness to all of the screaming and yelling I had partaken in at Winter Jam the night before. By the next morning, though, I knew I was dealing with more than a worn-out throat. I moped around the house Saturday with a fever, sucked it up Sunday for Maddie's 2nd birthday party, and trudged through this past week with a flaming throat, constant headache, and some seriously stuffed-up sinuses.

Long story short, I was miserable for five straight days. I don't get sick very often, so when I do all I want to do is stay curled up in bed until the end of time. The schedule of a college student doesn't allow for any extra sleep, though, as you all should know. I tried to get to bed as early as possible and fit in lots of naps, but no matter how much sleep I got I always woke up feeling like I had been ran over by a Mack truck during my slumber. Not fun.

My saving grace came in an e-mail I received Wednesday evening while studying my brains out for a chemistry exam. My Spanish professor sent out a message saying she was very sorry, but she would not be able to make it to class on Thursday morning. (She was sorry? By all means- no apologies required. Really.) Because Spanish is my only class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, that meant I could turn off my alarm clock, go to bed on Wednesday night, and sleep until my sickly body decided to wake up. And that is exactly what I did.

I slept in until 10:45 on Thursday morning after a full eleven hours of sleep. I relaxed in bed for another twenty minutes or so and then made my way to the bathroom, where I took a two-hour long bubble bath, during which I read an entire novel. By the time 2:30 rolled around, when I had to leave for my field experience at the middle school, I was feeling brand-new.

As it turns out, all it took was an unhealthy amount of sleep and a nice bubble bath to get me back on my feet... thus, confirming my theory that a lifetime supply of Tylenol and Vicks VapoRub just can't hold a candle to some good, old-fashioned rest and relaxation.
