The importance of being eloquent

"We've become the most aggressively inarticulate generation to come along since... you know, a long, long time ago!"

A friend posted this video on Twitter over the weekend and I thought I'd share to give you all something to think about. It's a typography animation set to the words of a poem by Taylor Mali which talks about how our generation seems to have lost hold of the idea that knowing what you're talking about is attractive. It seems that the majority of children and teenagers (and even some adults) believe that being knowledgable and having strong convictions makes you "uncool." As a result, our generation has latched on to a way of speaking that is fraught with "invisible question marks" and that, essentially, makes the speaker sound dumb as a box of rocks.

{Just watch to the video and you'll see what I mean.}

Moral of the story: intelligence is an attractive quality to possess, as is the ability to hold strong beliefs and stick to what you stand for.

It scares me how most of our generation do not seem to understand this concept.

I hope you all have a fabulous Monday and please keep Taylor Mali's message in mind. Never feel like you have to dumb yourself down in order to be noticed. Eloquence and intelligence are such valuable commodities; knowledge will take you places you could never dream of going otherwise. These qualities are all so precious and it pains me to know that certain people take them for granted.

Oh yes ... I love this. Intelligence is a trait most people these days put no importance on & that? is very, very sad. And scary.
