As you may or may not have noticed... Makeover Monday got somewhat neglected (read: totally forgotten) during the craziness that was my move back down to Evansville. Because I haven't really blogged about my workout habits or my weigh-ins since summer, I thought I'd post a quick update on the subject.
Since moving in on August 25th, I have lost about 6 pounds. This is mainly due to all my time at the gym and my insanely busy schedule which leaves me with no time for sitting around, doing nothing, and/or pigging out on junk food. Weight-wise, I'm currently sitting close to where I was at the end of last semester.
I've expanded my gym routine since last year. More group exercise classes, more running, more weight training. I've learned to push myself without overexerting my body (i.e. don't get off the elliptical just because you're bored or starting to sweat a little). I've even gotten my roommates to go to the gym with me once in awhile to make it fun, which is a big deal, because they're not big fans.
My biggest challenge came at the beginning of the semester and involved my eating habits. Taking 18 credit hours worth of classes and working 2 jobs and getting involved in nearly every organization and opportunity I come across doesn't leave much time for planning and eating proper meals. What I noticed is that I would go the whole day, from about 8:00 in the morning until after 10:00 at night, on a very small amount of snack food: granola bars or crackers that I kept stashed in my purse. As a result, I would come back to my apartment late at night, starving, and eat a big dinner. The dinners weren't always healthy and, as you all are aware of, eating before bed is one of the worst things you can do for your metabolism.
My routine was not healthy and was definitely not conducive to losing weight.
Since coming to that realization, I've been making more of an effort to start off my day with a balanced breakfast, squeeze in an actual lunch sometime between classes and working random shifts in the Language Lab (this often times results in me eating on the job- thankfully, my job allows for this), and eat a well-portioned dinner at least 3 hours before bed time.
I would like to say that I'll start writing regular Makeover Monday posts (or something similar) but I don't think my crazy schedule will allow for that. I will, however, make an effort to post more weight loss-related blogs every now and then.
Random side note: I love how I initally said this would be a "quick" update... and then I went on to write a novel. Story of my life. Huge hugs to you if you read it all :)
