The face of God

I don't have a huge long blog entry planned out in my mind, like I usually do. I just wanted to post a quick little note touching on something the pastor brought up in his sermon this morning. He brought up how most people, when seeking guidance, search for God's finger pointing the way. They look for his direction and encouragement, but only in the form of telling them where to go. There is a difference, however, in looking for God's finger and seeking His face.

"It's You who I love, God. You are the one I live for. You are the one who I love with all of my heart. I don't want to seek Your finger pointing me in the right direction. I want to seek Your face. I want all of You."

When we go to God with our problems and he points us in a specific direction in our lives, those instructions aren't always what we want to hear. God often times tells us to do something that we don't want to do. But if we look for His face in the chaos of our everyday lives, He'll start working on our hearts. He will inscribe on our hearts his plans for us, and the things that we didn't want to do in the past, we'll now look forward to with fervor and eagerness. We start to want God's will for our lives, above the plans that we've made for ourselves.

This is something I've been thinking and praying about all morning. My newest goal for myself is to seek out God for everything that He is. I don't want to just go to Him when I'm lost or confused; God is with me always, and I need to start realizing that and opening up to Him for every little thing, not just when I want something.

More than my next breath
More than life or death
All I'm reaching for, I live my life to know You more
I leave it all behind, You are all that satisfies
To know You is to want to know You more
